Saint Gaudens Gold Coins
The Saint Gaudens gold coins first came into being in 1906. The then president of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt, had his friend and famed sculptor, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, redesign the countries monetary coinage to show the classical design of the ancient Greeks, which was the birthplace of modern day democracy. Although Augustus Saint-Gaudens was in failing health at the time, he arose to the challenge and offered up several designs for the coins to Roosevelt.
